Cheese Stake That Vampire

16 Sep

I’m a bit of a fan girl, if I love a film or TV show I’ll happily buy into the whole thing. I have a Game of Thrones mug (Lannister House of course), Breaking Bad t-shirts and once dressed up as Harry Potter to get into a midnight bookstore opening. So I was very happy to be sent the True Blood: Drinks & Bites Cookbook.
It will go marvellously well with my Merlotte’s Bar & Grill Waitress t-shirt and ‘I Want To Do Bad Things With You’ shopping bag (don’t judge me).
Vamp2But also it gives me a chance to try out a few items themed around one of my most favourite TV shows. Yes I love me a bit of deep south vampire and would happily move to Bon Temps if I could but as that’s unlikely here’s the next best thing – whip up some bayou treats that wouldn’t be out of place served up in Fangtasia.

The book contains 45 themed food and drink recipes (written and developed by real bods from the show) and all look quite good fun but I decided to try out the ‘Cheese Stakes’ (stakes get it?) because they seemed quite easy but still impressive.

The recipes can be a bit American but hey you know me, always happy to improvise, and I got a good cheesy dough ready. It was rather simple and I was quite pleased. The cutting into ‘Vampire Stake Shape’ was a little tricky and I am rubbish at this – as you may remember – but I got some decent points cut out.
Here is my dough and my little cheese stakes going in and coming out:
CHEESEPretty cool huh?
I was surprised they turned out so well it being my first foray into making party nibbles, some of them even had a bit of crunch! The addition of some cayenne or chilli pepper into the mix gives them the appropriate ‘bite’ and they look suitably scary.
Vamp1I will certainly be using this recipe again and now Halloween is on the horizon I am thinking of other shapes I can cut them into. And as the nights are drawing in I will definitely be checking out other things in the book – I’m a bit of a completist.

Happy to say this makes a successful addition into my Inspired by… Theme Nights, of which I hope there will be a lot more. I have the Game Of Thrones Cook Book which I shall be looking into next, no really I do.

Vamp3Ooooh gratuitous vampire shot, sorry!

True Blood: Drinks & Bites is out now.

I know! Isn’t it marvellous? It’s a really good big book too called Feast Of Ice & Fire – some of the recipes are quite crazy! I’ll definately do a few this winter… it’s coming after all 🙂

      Lots of love xx

Can you help Alice?
